Stretching for the Future
Actively choose your future.
I show up here each week with the objective of reaching someone with my message - that YOU have tremendous power to create the life you want. The success of this blog has prompted me to think about what I would like to do next. How can I reach more people? Help people directly and in a more intimate and personalized way? Create a community of like minded and supportive individuals? Teach people about the power their lifestyle choices can have? Help people start to think differently about their relationship with food?
After serious consideration and research, I have decided to become a certified health coach, and am five weeks into a year long program with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. For some time I was resistant to the idea of pursuing a certification. I wondered if I really needed one, I was reluctant to commit the time and money, it felt like too much, and I felt like I already have a really strong base of health and wellness knowledge. But, knowing and doing are not the same, and there is always much more to learn so I decided that a formal program was the next right step.
The program lasts a full year, although I will be coaching before that, and covers a huge range of dietary and lifestyle content, coaching skills, and business best practices. What appealed to me about this program is that it takes a whole person, individualized approach. I will not be a coach who has a “program” that every client will follow; instead I will have the tools to provide a customized approach for a wide range of desired outcomes, based on the wants and needs of a particular person.
Like the rest of my story, this new piece will be a journey of small steps and as I move through the year I know it will become clear to me what services or programs that I would like to offer to clients.
When we make decisions like this one, we are stretching towards our future. That looks like being able to say yes to something not because you have 100% certainty of the outcome, but because you can see that it will generally move you in the direction you want to go.
Actively choose your future. Wherever you are today, look to your future when you are faced with decision(s). Does this decision move me towards the future I want, or away from it? Choose accordingly.
